LYNN BRADSHAW CREATING WEB SITES WITH XARA WEB DESIGNER 7

WHY XARA? Xara is a consumer friendly web site design and development program which does not require any knowledge of html, php and Java Script. What you see is what you get. You can use a combination of bundled templates together with elements created in other programs such as Photoshop to create individualised content. Websites can be uploaded to the web easily and quickly.

INSTALLING XARA Install the program either from the Internet or from the disk. Ensure that you have clicked on the templates running down the right hand side to see what downloadable content is available. Download all the files and templates from the website. Reboot the computer to ensure all templates are installed.

THE START UP WINDOW When you start up Xara it shows hints and tips. The default is always the instruction manual. It is useful to read this as it gives an overview of how to use the software.

CREATING A WEB PAGE FROM A TEMPLATE Xara comes with lots of templates which can be adapted. You can find the templates on the right hand side of the screen, in the tab named “Designs Gallery”. If you have the full version and have downloaded all the templates from the internet then you will have plenty of choice. To work on a template, double click on it to move it to the work space. You can now add and remove elements from the web page.
