ACTIONABLE POINTS FOR ACHIEVING DOUBLE DIGIT GROWTH S. No Technological Interventions% of area Proposed to cover with interventions 3Blackgram & Greengram Promoting YMV resistant varieties (LBG- 752, PU-31, LBG-787) Use of Gypsum & Micronutrients Foliar nutrition of KNO 3 Supply of water carrying pipes / Oil engines on subsidy 10 – 20% 4Maize Zero tillage practice in Rice Fallows100% Application of Micronutrients20-30% 18

GAPS IN AGRICULTURE Crop sequence & crop rotation Continuous mono cropping Non remunerative crop sequence Non adoption of intercropping for sustainable production Poor Soil Health Management Degradation of organic matter Micro nutrient deficiency Poor Soil physical properties Existence of saline and alkaline soils 19

GAPS IN AGRICULTURE Indiscriminate use of pesticides & Fertilizers Top dressing of Phosphatic Fertilizers Improper selection of pesticides Improper pesticide dosages Timely application Imbalanced use of NPK Excess use of urea Extension system: Man power resources Dissemination of Technologies to the farmers 20

MAJOR STRATEGIES A)Micro nutrients:  Massive Soil Health Campaign – Collected 630 soil samples during 2015-16 through GPS.  Planning for distribution of Micronutrients to 1500 ha.  Already distributed 10 MTs of Zinc Sulphate. B) Village level Action Plan has been prepared for 14 revenue villages to address the gaps in productivity. 21

Major Strategies for achieving double digit growth C) Crop wise strategies for increasing productivity in each crop by adopting good agricultural practiceslike IPM, INM and organic farming with emphasis on reducing cost of cultivation. Focus on reducing cost of cultivation by adopting methods like: direct seeding in paddy (4000 ha), zero tillage in maize (750 ha.), Zero tillage in jowar (1000 ha.), pulses in rice fallows (500ha), etc. 22

Major Strategies D) Organic Farming/ Natural farming: 1. Popularizing use of different organic manures like vermi compost, bio fungicides & bio pesticides like trichoderma viridi, pseudomonas, neem oil. 2. Integration of NPM for quality produce in different crops 3. Using RMGs & JLGs as platform for promoting organic farming. 23

Major Strategies E) Extension: Improving Extension Reach by Polam Pilusthondi,Chandranna Rythu Kshetralu, utilizing farmer fecilitators services in different crops for increasing productivity. Focus on Organic Farming - Reduction in use of chemical fertilizers and reducing indiscriminate use of pesticides. F) Farm Mechanization: Promoting improved Farm Mechanization to supply farm implements on subsidy to reduce the cost of farm operations. 24

CROP WISE INTERVENTIONS TO ACHIEVE DOUBLE DIGIT GROWTH 25 Major Production Gaps proposed for correction which contribute for increase in growth Technological Intervension Proposed to bridge the gap % of Area proposed to cover with intervention (in ha.) Lack of awareness on soil health Creating awareness on soil health through soil testing and also on usage of micronutrients like Zinc and Gypsum. Yield increase by 15 to 20% 20-30% Non application of organic manure and bio- fertilizers Creating awareness on use of vermin compost, and growing of green manure crops and application of organic manures. Yield increase by 10- 15% 10-20% Application of phosphatic fertilizers as top dressing Educating the farmers on basal application of Phosphatic fertilizers and creating awareness on negative effects of Topdressing, use of Phosphorus Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB). Cost reduction by 5-10% 20-25% Seed treatment with bio fungicides is not practiced Awareness on use of Bio fungicides like pseudomonas for seed treatment in Paddy. 5-10% Optimum plant population not followed Encouraging Direct sowing with Seed Drills and Cost reduction by 20- 25% 30-50% Rodent damage Trainings, Mass Campaigns and supply of rodenticide on whole village approach 10-20% Paddy

Cont.…. 26 Major Production Gaps proposed for correction which contribute for increase in growth Technological Intervension Proposed to bridge the gap % of Area proposed to cover with intervention (in ha.) High cost of cultivation Promoting direct sowing and Farm Mechanization from land preparation to harvesting, thereby reducing cost of cultivation by 30-40% and increasing the productivity by 5-10% 5-10% Lack of Awareness on weed management Trainings on weed management in paddy, which contributes 10% yield increase. 5-10% Existence of Saline and alkaline soils Creating awareness on reclamation of these problematic soils through use of Gypsum, Vermi compost 10-15% Lack of awareness on disease resistance Promoting basal application of “K” fertilizers and creating awareness on how K fertilizers increase disease resistance 5-10% Water shortage in tail end areas Promoting direct seeding in paddy 2-5% Paddy

CROP WISE INTERVENTIONS TO ACHIEVE DOUBLE DIGIT GROWTH 27 Major Production Gaps proposed for correction which contribute for increase in growth Technological Intervension Proposed to bridge the gap % of Area proposed to cover with intervention (in ha.) Lack of awareness on soil health Creating awareness on soil health through soil testing and also on usage of micronutrients like Zinc, Boron and Gypsum. Yield increase by 10 to 15% 40-50% Using high seed rate Creating awareness on use of optimum seed rate @7.5kg/ha in dibbling method. 20-30% Pests and diseases Creating awareness on timely control of pests and diseases 20-30% Jowar

CROP WISE INTERVENTIONS TO ACHIEVE DOUBLE DIGIT GROWTH 28 Major Production Gaps proposed for correction which contribute for increase in growth Technological Intervension Proposed to bridge the gap % of Area proposed to cover with intervention (in ha.) Sowing of Seed Adopting Zero tillage practice in rice fallows reducing the cost of cultivation by 10-12% 100% Non adoption of Seed treatment with Bio fertilisers Seed treatment with PSB reduces the cost of cultivation by 10-15%. 25-30% Indiscriminate use of Fertilisers. Create awareness on use of foliar application of liquid fertilisers. Reducing the cost by 15-20% Improper water management practices. Create awareness on integrated water management practices. Improper control measures for control of stem borer Taking control measures for stem borer by application of insecticides 10 days after sowing and 22 DAS. And IPM practices. Micronutrient deficiencies like Zn, Fe. Creating awareness on foliar spray of micronutrient fertilizers Indiscriminate use of pesticides Creating awareness on IPM practices Poor resistance to pests and diseases. Creating awareness on use of “K” fertilizers as early as possible in the crop period. Maize
