History of Hawaii Hawaii had a tyrant queen named Lili ʻ uokalani In January 1893, Queen she was overthrown and replaced by a Provisional Government.

American Intervention The United States got interested in Hawaii for their sugar. When the people were tired of Queen Lili ʻ uokalan, the US sent marines to help the people overthrow her

Country’s Reaction The 1897 Petition- a treaty to annex the Hawaiian Islands was in the senate for ratification. The newly formed Hawaiian Patriotic League successfully petitioned congress in opposition of the treaty. Pearl Harbor was set up in Hawaii, and congress made a joint resolution to annex Hawaii.

Country’s Reaction When Hawaii was officially annexed to the US, celebration broke out across the islands. Bon fires and dances were held.
