Let’s build a backyard swimming pool! Mr. Horstmeyer’s 8 th Grade Current Events Class
2
Real-World Jobs This unit of real-world jobs, we will take a look at how in ground swimming pools are built. Each group will have a preset budget they must work with to complete their pool. We will look at the major steps involved, sketch diagrams, and design our dream pools. Once the group work is done, each group will present their pools and the information about them.
3
To start, you must create your own dream pool using the software found on http://www.mydreampool.com/. You will work with the concrete specialist especially to coordinate a sidewalk layout. After sketching a rough draft with all accessories, lengths, and widths labeled, you must submit your plan to the accountant for budget review.http://www.mydreampool.com/
4
You must estimate the prices of each accessory and option chosen by your group, and then estimate the total price for the pool, using Hayward’s product website https://www.hayward- pool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Homepage_10201_10551_- 1.https://www.hayward- pool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Homepage_10201_10551_- 1 You are responsible for making sure that the cost of the pool stays within the budget. Create an Excel document for your bookkeeping.
5
You are responsible for the sidewalk pour! You will utilize your math skills and calculate how much square feet of concrete you will need. Your sidewalks will be 6in. thick. Concrete is $30 per cubic foot (or ft 3 ). For example, for a sidewalk 20ftx4ftx6in, this would cost $1200. Complete this for each dream pool layout! Report everything to the accountant! http://www.online-calculator.com/
