2 Georgia’s Bridge Bill  The General Assembly of Georgia enacted the BRIDGE Act House Bill 400 on May 20, 2010. This act was passed to ensure that Georgia’s 6th -12th grade students are aware of available career and postsecondary education options.  In other words, it is a law, and it pertains to YOU.

4 The Changing U.S. Workforce Unskilled 60% Skilled 20% Professional 20% Skilled 65% Unskilled 15% Professional 20% 1950 2007 National Summit on 21 st Century Skills for 21 st Century Jobs Why did Georgia pass this law? First reason ….

5 Second Reason  To increase the graduation rate, decrease the drop- out rate, and increase postsecondary enrollment rate.  Great goal!  Georgia wants to make sure all their students have a plan.  The goal is yours! We want to make sure that you have all the information necessary to reach your goal.

6 What that is fine and dandy; what does this mean for me?  High school students shall be provided guidance, advisement, and counseling annually that will enable them to successfully complete their individual graduation plans, preparing them for a seamless transition to postsecondary study, further training, or employment.

7 9 th Grade - Expectations  Explore and investigate at least three additional occupations prior to the annual student/family conference. 8 10 th Grade - Expectations  Have been made aware of “College Credit Now” programs. Duel Enrollment AP Classes Joint Enrollment

9 Job 4 year college 11 th Grade - Expectations  Make the connection between school and work by exploring and saving in their portfolios at least three possible choices of postsecondary institutions that match their Individual Graduation Plan. 2 year college Military Technical Training

10 12 th Grade - Expectations  Identify your next step: college, military, apprenticeship, workforce (self reported). Let us know what you are doing. We will miss you!
