1910 First Black Boxer Jack Johnson was born in Galveston, Texas Born on March 31 st 1878 First black boxer to win a championship Boxing years: 1897-1928 Fought 114 fights, won 80 45 of the 80 were knockouts Went to jail for taking his soon to be Caucasian wife across the border. (Picture in right corner) Died in Raleigh, North Carolina on June 10 th 1946

1911 Indianapolis 500 Ray Harroun was born on January 12 th 1879 Won the first Indianapolis 500 on May 30 th 1911 Won 14,000 dollars for winning the 500 Was asked to build a race car in 1910 Average speed in the race was 75 mph(miles per hour) Died on January 19 th 1968 in Anderson, Indiana <---- Today <---- Then

1917 Earthquakes On September 12 th 1917 at 3:25 am, there was a mild earthquake On September 24 th 1917 at 1:21am, there was another mild earthquake On October 2 nd 1917 three earthquake shocks were felt at 11:40 am On October 26 th 1917 at 1:20 am mild rocking was felt. Many houses collapsed Rockslides blocked rivers

1919 Franklin Roosevelt’s Wife Founds Out About Affair Got married in New York City Married on March 17 th Had 6 children but Franklin Jr. died as an infant 1 girl 4 boys Franklin had an affair with their secretary Lucy Eleanor never knew about the affair until she found love letters from Lucy Eleanor wanted a divorce but Franklin didn’t want to hurt their family and it would be bad publicity Affair continued until Franklin died on May 7 th 1945
