B. The Battle of Trenton Washington’s men=low moral leaving after enlistment period is up – Needs victory to keep them from going home Washington leaves campfires burning & leads men across Del. R during a storm on X-mas night to Trenton – Trenton held by Hessians Surprised the Hessians w/ attack on X-mas day – Against battle code/sleeping because of Xmas celebration/storm AMERICAN VICTORY re-enlistment of soldiers & survival of Continental Army

C. Fight for Philadelphia Gen. Howe (GB) decides to take the American capital of Philadelphia – Successful and sets up camp w/ the loyalist supporters

D. Victory at Saratoga Gen. Burgoyne (GB) plans to march from Canada to Albany and join forces with Howe to isolate NE – Encounters resistence on the way & short food supplies which leaves them vulnerable Howe busy in Philly and is late to meet up with Howe American troops surround Burgoyne at Saratoga Burgoyne surrenders – Gb now change strat to keep soldiers close to their cannons and boats

E. A Turning Point VICTORY AT SARATOGA= TURNING POINT – French agree to support the Americans
