1 Through that Door

2 1. Discuss two types of figurative language in the poem. Give an example of each. Tell how the poet uses them effectively. 2. Discuss the theme of Through that Door.” Use two references to demonstrate the theme. (Define, state, reference, reference, con sentence.)

3  Theme is what the author wants us to understand from the story: it’s the message. The theme of this poem is that the power of imagination rests within each of us. The poet uses imagery such as “the window lets in the light of the moon” and “lakes as blue as sky”. Each example demonstrates the potential in creativity that exists in each of us. It is up to us whether we share these creations or not.

4 Theme is the message in a piece of writing. A possible theme for this poem is the power of the imagination. This theme is seen in a phrase like “red brick crumbling”. The poet uses imagery to allow the reader to imagine the visual the poet is creating. The theme is also evident in a phrase that describes the moon as having “mysteries and magic”. The poet captures the unknown quality of the moon and it triggers the reader’s imagination. It is true, that the imagination allows us to experience life in a variety of ways.
