Theme is… a message or lesson about people and life the significance and importance of a story something a writer adds to a story to make it more meaningful

Theme is… rarely stated directly in a story because the author wants the reader to experience the meaning must contain a point of view

Theme is NOT… the subject or topic of the story – For example, a story about a brave young girl during the Revolutionary War era. The young girl is the subject of the story. The theme of this story is it is important to stand up for your rights. cannot be expressed in just one word
