2 Lesson Focus Students identify and describe the 7 roles of the president:  Chief of State  Chief Executive  Chief Diplomat  Chief Legislator  Chief of the Party  Chief Citizen  Commander in Chief

3 Reasons for Focusing on the Topic Using a PSA activity for this topic would engage the students in critical thinking to analyze the roles of the president for better overall understanding.

4 Activity 1.Define and describe each role and have the students take notes. 2.Put the students into 7 groups. Give each group a folder containing a primary source for each role (image, speech, memo, letter…) 3.Students will analyze each source and complete the questions provided to determine a role of the president. 4.Bring the class back together for discussion.

By looking at these two sources, how do you know that each one demonstrates a different role of the president?
