Background European Schools of High-Energy Physics every year Co-organized with JINR, Dubna CERN–Latin-American Schools of High-Energy Physics in odd years (2001 onwards) 134 LA users at CERN from 7 countries Larger Asia–Pacific user community at CERN 547 users from 11 countries: Australia, China, India, Iran, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Pakistan, Thailand, Taiwan, Uzbekistan Trend towards globalization of particle physics Interest from: Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam Euro-Asia-Pacific School / 11 October 2010

Outline of Proposal Euro–Asia–Pacific Schools of High-Energy Physics to be held in even years Location to rotate among Asia-Pacific countries Expressions of support / interest from physicists in several Asia–Pacific countries: Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Pakistan, Thailand, Taiwan, … Support from France Building on experience from their France–Asia Particle- Physics School Euro-Asia-Pacific School / 11 October 2010 3

Concrete Suggestions Aim for first Euro–Asia–Pacific School of High-Energy Physics in 2012 Outside summer period (earlier or later) Set up International Advisory Committee (IAC) and International Organizing Committee (IOC) Each with representatives from Asia–Pacific region and from Europe (e.g. CERN, ECFA, France) Secure funding C.f., budget for CERN–Latin-American Schools at level of about 150 kCHF per School, ~ half from CERN Process for selecting first location Discussion in IAC to decide on the host country Decision by end 2010 for holding first School in 2012 Euro-Asia-Pacific School / 11 October 2010 4
