Pathogen Biography Malaria is a bacteria that attacks the red blood cells. This parasitic bacteria is spread from the bites of mosquitoes. The scientific name is Plasmodium falciparum. It is a protist and has DNA.

Disease Malaria attacks the blood stream. Particularly the red blood cells. The organisms that it affects is humans, and also the female Anopheles mosquito. If not treated properly this disease is fatal. Some become more sick than others. Symptoms are Flu like. Chills, fever, headache, vomiting, sweating and body aches. About 853 thousand to a million die per year from Malaria.

Treatment of disease Malaria can be prevented and destroyed. Certain drugs can be injected into the bloodstream. These drugs will kill the bacteria. Malaria can be prevented by using (IPT) or Intermittent Preventive Treatment. Symptoms are treated like the flu. Lots of liquids and rest. Patents are given antimalarial drugs.

Prevention Prevention would be vector control.This is when the Ministry of Health will destroy some larva breeding grounds, or spray insecticide in homes. Also in other countries bed nets are used. Also using bug sprays and insecticides help. No vaccines are available, but the disease can be easily killed. You would be most at risk in Africa.
