2 WHY DISASTER RESPONSE? IS COMMUNITY SERVICE ONE OF THE 4 AVENUES OF SERVICE OF ROTARY? IF THERE IS A DISASTER, NATURAL OR MAN- MADE, WOULD YOU HELP A FELLOW ROTARIAN OR A NEIGHBOR GET THEIR LIVES BACK? SHOULD DISASTER RESPONSE BE PART OF YOUR CLUB’S ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE EFFORTS?

3 Benefits to Community Community will be better informed & prepared (Less Stress) A proven model for timely, effective disaster response will be in place Trained community volunteers will be able to assist during & after a disaster Critical resources will flow quickly due to the establishment of partnerships with existing disaster response organizations

6 THE PROGRAM What Does It Do? 1.Creates a Club Disaster Response Committee whose Chair reports to the Community Service Chair (Multiple clubs=Joint committee) 2.Outlines the organization of the committee along with the duties of each position 3.Defines the responsibilities of the committee 4.Provides support for successful implementation including program documentation

12 Getting Started 1.Agree to create a Disaster Response Committee under Community Service 2.Recruit club members for the committee that are passionate about this topic and want to serve 3.Require ALL committee members to read the Club Program Guide (only 10 pages) and review the information on the project web site 4.Hold committee organizational meeting 5.Get to work!
