Disaster Preparedness – An ASPCA Overview Current Projects: National Animal Rescue & Sheltering Coalition (NARSC) Member Disaster Response Team (DRT) – Technical emergency response team capable of responding to disasters or large-scale cruelty / neglect cases. ASPCA Pro – Higher Level Disaster Preparedness Information / Tools Disaster Grants – Disperse emergency funding to assist organizations & their animals / communities in immediate need due to disaster.

National Animal Rescue & Sheltering Coalition Coalition of the National Humane Organizations (AHA, HSUS, Code 3 Assoc., UAN, SAWA, NACA, Best Friends, IFAW & the “A”) who have come together to “work collaboratively & cooperatively to assist communities & their animals in the planning, preparations & response to incidents that place animals in distress.” NARSC Accomplishments: –Q-Cards –Training Standards –Mutual Aid Agreements

National Animal Rescue & Sheltering Coalition Coalition Accomplishments Defined: Assisted in the Resource Typing for Animal Search & Rescue assets for FEMA. A pre-credentialing system which identifies the qualifications of individual responders (the Qualifications Card or “Q-Card”) issued by each member organization. The development of a Type III Incident Management Team specific to animal issues comprised of Coalition members from each organization. A ‘Code of Conduct’ has already been signed by every member organization of the Coalition.

Disaster Response Team The DRT has expanded its scope & now assists our “animal CSI” team in addition to providing specialized training to our internal audiences. Response Training: ICS, Animal Rescue, Water Rescue, etc. Resource Training: Logistics, Finance, Media & Communications, etc.
