White Sands National Park New Mexico

What is it? It is a national monument in New Mexico It is 10 acres It is an area filled with sand made of gypsum mineral, which is not very hard

Gypsum Gypsum is a soft mineral that makes the White Sands. The sand is formed when big pieces of Gypsum breaks in to small pieces. These small pieces are then carried away with the wind. This makes them rub against each other which makes the pieces smaller and smaller. Finally it becomes fine, smooth sand corn.

History 100 million years ago it was covered by sea. It was discovered by some officers in 1849 In 1933, President Herbert Hoover made it a national park.
