2  The guiding question we will look at today is… Were the Birmingham Civil Rights leaders justified in using children to march in protest against discrimination?  Working with others, you will examine both sides of the argument and their reasons.

4  April 1963 – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. arrived in Birmingham – one of the most racially divided cities in the south  Boycotts, sit – ins, and marches asking for equal rights resulted in mass arrests  April 12, 1963 – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is arrested and thrown in the jail. He writes his famous Letter from Birmingham Jail calling for support for the cause.
