What is Stewardship?

Stewardship = managing something that we’ve been given

Does anything really belong to us?

Haggai 2:8

Everything that we have belongs to God

Matthew 6:19-21

What is Tithing?

What does tithe mean?

Tithe = tenth or 10%

They gave 10% for the Levites every year They gave 10% for the religious festivals every year They gave 10% for the needy every three years (3.3% per year) TOTAL = 23.3%

Is tithing talked about in the New Testament?

Matthew 23:23

Are we held to the Old Testament law?

Nowhere in the New Testament are we commanded to tithe

“Tithing today is sometimes presented as the equivalent of a Christian stock investment. Pay the tithe, and God will give you more money in return. Refuse to tithe, and God will punish you. Such thoughts rip at the heart of the good news of the gospel.” -Pagan Christianity pg. 180

Although the New Testament is silent about tithing, it is not silent about giving
