January 19 Ms. Wu says … thanks for working hard! Now get to work! 1)Get out HW 3.5. 2)Get started on the warm up quietly. 3)Grade HW 3.5. 4)Retrieve manila folder, adhere quicky quiz into notebook, and correct if needed.____________________________________ 13) Solution 21) 20)

3 Vocabulary System of Inequalities: A set of two or more inequalities with the same variables. Solution to a System of Inequalities: The set of all points common to each inequality in a system. Graphically, the region where the graphs overlap. Solution to System
4
4 The only way to find the solution to a system of inequalities is to graph the system! The solution is the graph. So, when I ask you to solve a system of inequalities, just graph them on the same axes…
5
5 Here are some tips… 1)Graph each inequality on the same set of axes. 2)You can use different colors for each inequality (like yellow and blue). 3)Where the graphs overlap, that’s the solution (where you see green!)
6
6 Solve 1. 2. 3. 4.

7 #1 #2 #3 #4 NO SOLUTION Solution is the line

8 Write a system for the Graph 1)Find the equations for each boundary line 2)Replace the “=“ with the appropriate inequality
9
9 The answer to the previous question
10
10 Let’s change gears… If I want to check and see if one point is a solution to a given inequality, I don’t have to graph. I can just substitute the point into each inequality and check to see if the point makes true! I can just substitute the point into each inequality and check to see if the point makes both true!
11
11 Example For Example is (2, 1) a solution to ? Are these statements true? No! The first one isn’t true and therefore, that point isn’t a solution to the system.
12
12 1)Graph the given system 2)Name the polygon formed by the solution of the system 3)Find the area of the polygon y ≤ x + 4 y ≥ x – 4 x ≥ -2 x ≤ 4 Challenge:

» 2) parallelogram » 3) Area = (6)(8) = 48 sq un.
