Science Project Advice on how to reduce energy losses
3
Advantages of reducing energy losses: Less fuel will be needed to keep the temperature at a comfortable level - Smaller heating bills Conservation of precious energy sources Less pollution.
4
Window in older housing consists of a single pane of glass. The greater the area of the window, the faster energy passes through the window This can be reduced by 50% by installing double glazing. Double glazing
5
Cavity wall insulation Most house walls consist of bricks on the outside and one on the inside The gap in between is known as a cavity. We can fill this up with insulation to make the house warmer. This prevents warm air rising into the loft
6
Loft insulation Heat escapes through the upstairs ceiling of a house by conduction. Loft insulation placed directly above the ceiling helps reduce the rate at which energy is the transferred by conduction. http://www.markinsulations.com/
7
Draught Exclusion Cold air enters the house through badly fitted doors and windows. This cold air mixes with the warmer air to reduce temperature inside the house.
8
Carpeting Thick carpets can reduce the heat lost through the floors The carpet material acts as extra insulation This reduces heat transferred by conduction. Carpet
