10
Slide 10 Crucible tongs For handling hot crucibles; also used to pick up other hot objects. NOT to be used for picking up beakers! For handling hot crucibles; also used to pick up other hot objects. NOT to be used for picking up beakers!

Slide 12 Striker Strikers are used to light Bunsen burners. Strikers are used to light Bunsen burners. The flints on strikers are expensive. Do not operate the striker repeatedly just to see the sparks! The flints on strikers are expensive. Do not operate the striker repeatedly just to see the sparks!
13
Slide 13 Test Tube Used to hold small amounts of liquids.
14
Slide 14 Triple beam balance Used to measure masses very precisely. With the pan empty, move the three sliders on the three beams to their leftmost positions, so that the balance reads zero.
15
Slide 15 Scoopula Used to scoop small amounts of solid (fine powders, crystals) out of their containers.
16
Slide 16 Stirring rod A glass rod is used to manually stir solutions. It can also be used to transfer a single drop of a solution. A glass rod is used to manually stir solutions. It can also be used to transfer a single drop of a solution.
17
Slide 17 Things to know for sure! Know the difference between a beaker and an Erlenmeyer flask. (Which piece of glassware can we heat to a higher temperature and why?) Know the difference between beaker tongs and crucible tongs. (Beaker tongs- used for hot beakers, have black heat- resistant ends. Crucible tongs- used for hot crucibles, are completely made of metal and have a “nose” at the end made for grasping small equipment)
