Oral History Interview with Walta Lark: In the 20 th century, African American artists listened to Rhythm and blues, while whites often listened to country music. African Americans listened to Rhythm n’ Blues because they didn’t really enjoy the music that was being played on the radio. They wanted music that they could relate to This music didn’t have much of an impact on most people except for the ones that enjoyed it. Later on in the 20 th century, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis took music from blacks and made it their own.
