The School Carnival Maths Investigation
2
Brief Year 6 are in charge of the slice stall at the school carnival. Every student must bring something to sell at the stall. You will be given a recipe. From the recipe you must work out the quantities of ingredients and dimensions/volume of your packaging.
3
Task 1: Part A Find out the number of slices the recipe makes. Then, calculate the quantities of ingredients you will need to make six times that number.
4
Task 2: Part APart B Decide how you will package your slices for selling. (Consider using cardboard trays or paper bags.) Decide on the number of slices to package together. Estimate the size of each piece of slice, then decide on the size of the bag or cardboard tray. Construct a model/net of your packaging. Calculate how many packages you will have for sale.
5
Extension Work out the cost to make your recipe and what you would charge per package. Design a logo and name for your stall. e.g Mitch’s Munchies Hint – generally in retail the mark up is 200%!
