QUIZ FOR HEAT AND TEMPERATURE Zartiga, Biong, Dapon
2
Questions 1. Define Temperature. 2-3. Temperature Conversion If someone says that the temperature will be 303 K today, how can you express that temperature in °C and °F?
3
Questions 4-5. The normal temperature of a chickadee is 105.8°F. What is that temperature in °C and K?
4
Questions 6. Formula of Average Kinetic Energy. 7. It is a measure of total kinetic energy of a system 8. How much heat must be added to a 5000g of water to increase its temperature by 20C? The specific heat of water is 1cal/gC. 9. What is Convection? Give an example. 10. What is Conduction? Give an example.

Answers 1. Temperature is a measurement of the average kinetic energy of the molecules in an object or system and can be measured with a thermometer or a calorimeter. It is a means of determining the internal energy contained within the system.

Answers 2. To convert from Kelvin to Celsius: T C = T K - 273 T C = 303 - 273 T C = 30°C To convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit: T F = 9/5(T C ) + 32 T F = 9/5(30) + 32 T F = 86°F s Temperature Conversion Answer 30°C, 86°F

Answers 9. Convection: the up and down movement of gases, liquids, and semi-solid materials cause by heat- transfer. Ex.: Imagine a pot of boiling water. 10. Conduction: transfer of heat through direct contact with one substance to another. Ex. You don't want to touch a heated pot on the stove if it's handle is metal--because it too will be heated, and you'll burn yourself.
