1 Title: South Africa 2010 – Development. Lesson Objective: To investigate through playing the World Cup Development game – which country would win the World Cup based on that countries development.

2 Something to get you thinking...... Which country would win the World Cup if the results were based on their level of economic development rather than their ability to play football? To what extent is the success of a country's national football team linked to its level of economic development?

3 Task: This activity will take the entire lesson (maybe even two). We are going to play the “Development World Cup”. The layout will be exactly the same as the real thing. Each table represent’s the of the 8 groups in the World Cup. Each person at each table will represent a country within that group. All countries will play each other. You score goals by being able to call out the higher level of development from the trump cards.
