Goal: You will know history, theory and implementation strategies for these 3 main roles that robotics and related technologies play in educational settings. w Content to Enhance Technological Literacy w Context to Foster “21st Century Skills” w Curriculum to Integrate into the Classroom

Goal: Prepare to empower students to understand and master their 21st Century “smart world” where robotics and related technologies are ubiquitous. w Content to Enhance Technological Literacy w Robotics and related "Smart" technologies as Content for Technological Literacy…. What happens when computation is taken out of the box and put everywhere else? Anything can become a "peripheral".

Goal: Prepare to empower students to understand and master their 21st Century “smart world” where robotics and related technologies are ubiquitous. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. --Arthur C. Clarke

Goal: Prepare to empower students to understand and master their 21st Century “smart world” where robotics and related technologies are ubiquitous. It’s HEEEeeere! This is about learning to see things that come from the robotics & AI communities via military/DARPA with cute buzz words, but we don’t notice them as they enter in our homes, toy boxes and bodies. Does it matter? Do we need to know? Where is it going to be tomorrow? Do we know? Who is going to teach kids about it?

Objective: Know the basic rationales and sources of standards for teaching about technology in schools. Robotics as Content for Technological Literacy w Ed. Tech. vs. Tech. Ed. w Standards beyond ISTE-NETS: International Technology Education Association (ITEA), Technology for All Americans Project http://www.iteawww.org/TAA/TAA.html http://www.iteawww.org/TAA/HistoryofTfAAPPage.htm w Who teaches these things here? w How certified? Praxis?

Objective: Know and distinguish between the fictional and real history of robotics and related technologies. Remembering old robots and meeting new ones... w Decide for YOURSELF, later… w For now, let’s get started w Robotics History Hunt
