Formative vs. Summative Formative The goal of formative assessment is to gather feedback that can be used by the instructor and the students to guide improvements in the ongoing teaching and learning context. These are low stakes assessments for students and instructors. Examples: - Asking students to submit one or two sentences identifying the central idea of a text - Have students submit an outline or draft of a paper. Summative The goal of summative assessment is to measure the level of success or proficiency that has been obtained at the end of an instructional unit, by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. Examples: -Assigning a grade to a final exam -Final draft of a paper. -Unit tests

How to use WORD SPLASH: 1.Work in assigned groups. Each person is responsible for creating his or her own Word Splash in the box below. 2.Words incorporated into the Word Splash must relate to the concept of plagiarism. 3. Challenge yourself! Connect two of the words or phrases together and tell how they might go together in relation to the topic of plagiarism. 4. As a class, groups will share all words and phrases have been connected.
