.*~Diet~*. The Leatherback`s favorite food is a jellyfish most sea animals avoid--the poisonous Portuguese man-of-war

.*~Specialized shell structure~*. The Leatherback is the only sea turtle that does not have a hard top shell. It is protected instead by thick skin with seven long ridges along its back.

.*~Location~*. The leatherback sea turtle is found worldwide. It is mostly in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. It commonly nests in Malaya, Surinam, French Guinea, Mexico, and Costa Rico.

.*~Population, lifespan,& endangered info.~*. The leatherback sea turtle lives for around 80 years. The leatherback sea turtle was listed endangered on June 2, 1970 by the US Marine and Wildlife Service. There were around 25,000 females left worldwide on January 15, 1996. Eggs & survival Females come ashore in bands and lay their 60 to 100 eggs in holes which have been dug in the sand. Seven weeks later, when the eggs hatch, the babies rush back to the water. Compared to other sea turtles, the leatherback appears to have a better chance at continued survival.
