It may be due to ice, uneven walk-ways, lack of attention, the persistent darkness, or just being in a hurry to get inside where it is warm. Eliminate the slips and we could almost eliminate all of December’s injuries.

3. Historical Employee Leave Patterns - December Leave usage in the month of December is bi-polar, almost everyday is either above or below 20% control limits. Expect most of your staff to be available for the first three weeks, expect to be short-staffed after that.

Early morning frost will make walkways slippery. Vacation use will highest at the end of the month. Discussion – Winter is here, high winds, hard freezes, slick conditions, long nights, short days, snow and Christmas. Lot’s of distractions and increased opportunities for injuries, equipment failures, alarms and other impacts to work. Management Actions Check dampers, doors and auxiliary heating units to be sure they are set correctly to avoid freeze damage. Ensure snow removal and ice melting equipment and supplies are available. Keep your employees focused on safety as the conditions will be changing dramatically from one day to the next.
