4
Wii It turns out that it means I had entered my password incorrectly. BUT, I had to search the internet (see the catch 22 on this) to learn that. Say what you mean and mean what you say

Dr. Diesburg’s TV Say what you mean and mean what you say. Make sure that end users don’t see error messages that they can’t understand (and arguably shouldn’t see).

Working in groups – getting started Pick groups based on the project rather than the groupmates. –Groups who LIKE their project are far more productive than groups who like each other. –Another way of saying this : It is easier to learn to like your partners than it is to learn to like your project. Get to know each other –Have food/drink –Find out what you have in common Make sure you have the same goals –Are you trying for an A or a C? Be aware of everyone’s work styles –What times and places are best to meet?
10
Working in groups – constructive communication Let everyone have their say –Different people have different communication styles –Try taking turns, going around the table, etc. Capture ideas on paper, then discuss (criticize) the ideas, not the person Find something nice to say (praise first) Ask questions, propose alternatives; be cautious about definitive statements Be open and honest
11
Working in groups – management tips Put it in writing –Who is responsible for what; when is it due Be aware that there are different ways to contribute –Team members can specialize –Not everyone needs to program
12
Next Steps Readings –If you haven’t done so, finish DOET. Project –Groups should be mostly formed before you leave today (although your formal deliverable is due on Friday) –Projects must be selected by next Friday –Can’t find others to work with, no ideas interest you, other problems? Talk to me at once Next Time –Begin discussing DOET
