WHAT IS THE PURPOSE? oTo be in compliance with the Colorado Department of Education recommendations. oTo ensure that every APS student has the opportunity to be screened for advanced level and/or gifted services. Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

WHAT TEST WILL WE USE FOR SCREENING? NNAT (Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test) Hence: Naglieri Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

oAppropriate as a measure of general ability oPredictor of scholastic achievement oAppropriate for diverse cultural and language backgrounds (hearing, language, or motor impairment). oDesigned for fair assessment of socially or economically disadvantaged students. oThe Naglieri is a non-verbal test oInstructions are very short Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

WHO WILL BE TESTED? ALL 2nd GRADERS (NOT ALREADY IDENTIFIED AS GIFTED) Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

PATTERN COMPLETION Requires the student to complete a pattern by determining the general orientation and design details of the missing piece. ? Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

? REASONING BY ANALOGY Requires the student to recognize a logical relationship between several geometric shapes. Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

? SERIAL REASONING Requires the student to recognize a sequence of shapes and changes in the sequence. Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

BEFORE GOING TO TEST HAVE TEST BOOKS ALREADY LABELED TO ELIMINATE UNNECESSARY DOWN TIME FOR STUDENTS DATE NAME SCHOOL TEACHER GRADE Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

WHAT MATERIALS WILL I NEED DURING TESTING SESSION? 1.Directions – ADMIN Book 2.NNAT TEST BOOK for each student (+1 for the examiner) 3.½ Sheet of paper for a marker 4.2- #2 Pencils WITH an eraser 5.Clock 6.A “TESTING-DO NOT DISTURB” Sign Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

ALSO! BEFORE TESTING... BE FAMILIAR WITH TEST MATERIALS BY REVIEWING DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY AND... BY TAKING THE TEST!!!!! Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

STUDENTS WILL HAVE 30 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THE TEST Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

MORE TO THINK ABOUT: THE ROOM SEATING ONE PROCTOR FOR EVERY 25 STUDENTS However, it is recommended that you have 1 or 2 other staff members to help ensure students aren’t skipping questions or pages! Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

MAKE SURE DESKS ARE FREE OF ANY OBJECTS (BOOKS AND PAPERS) Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

DURING THE TEST Spend as much time as is needed for students to understand what they need to do, and how they are to mark their answers. NEVER make up your own samples – Repeat the sample directions ONLY. Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

ONCE TEST BEGINS... GIVE STUDENTS WHATEVER HELP THEY NEED WITH MARKING OR TURNING PAGES... BUT... DO NOT HELP THEM WITH SPECIFIC TEST ITEMS. Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

Make sure students DO NOT accidentally skip pages when turning pages. RECOMMENDED: Use ½ sheet markers so they only see ONE problem at a time. DEMONSTRATE Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

FOR STUDENTS WHO SEEM TO SLOW DOWN OR WHO APPEAR TO GIVE UP, ENCOURAGE However, IF a student is crying, or has COMPLETELY shut down, excuse them from completing the test. If you feel they are able, you can attempt to have them complete test individually with student if parent gives permission. Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

AFTER THE TEST COLLECT BOOKS VERIFY ALL PROBLEMS WERE MARKED BY EACH STUDENT (if not, encourage them to select an answer) Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

SCORING Scoring will be done in the Division of Accountability and Research. **Send all booklets via school mail to Divison of A & R no later than October 24 th Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

WHEN YOU SEND BACK TEST BOOKS: 1.MAKE SURE THERE IS A LABEL (included with the booklet delivery to your school) ON EACH BOOKLET FOR EACH STUDENT. 2. STUDENTS ARE GROUPED BY TEACHER. Accelerating learning for every APS student, every day.

WHAT NOW? AFTER EACH TEST HAS BEEN SCORED 1.Test booklets will be returned to your building (To be put in Student Cum Folders). 2.AGATE TOSA and AGATE Leader in your building will make further determinations for student programming/AGATE identification. 3.Communication to the parents will be shared at conferences by the classroom teacher.
