2 WHAT IS A DEBATE  a debate is an argument  There is no screaming or shouting  Two sides: fore and against  Each side argues their point of view strongly

3 TOPIC  Every debate has a topic to argue about  Without a topic there would be no debate!  The team that argees with the topic is the AFFIRMATIVE team  The team that disagrees with the topic is called the NEGATIVE

4 TEAM LINE  There must be 3 speakers who work together in the team.

5 FIRST SPEAKER  Define the topic  Introduce their team members  Outline what each speaker will talk about  Present their opinion and one fact on the topic

6 1 ST NEGATIVE SPEAKER  Must do the same except reject what the other speaker has said.  E.g. we do not agree that junk food should be banned until you are 21years old.

7 2 ND SPEAKER  Rebut what the 1 st negative speaker has said  Explain why they are wrong  Reveal another argument/fact to support their debate

8 2 ND NEGATIVE SPEAKER  Process is repeated

9 3 RD AND FINAL SPEAKER  Reintroduce team members  Rebut the 2 nd speaker  Sum up their teams arguments

10 WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR  Cue Cards  Eye Contact  Voice  Body  Nervous Habits
