Definitions Complex sentence-a sentence that contains an adjective, adverb, or a noun clause. A subordinate Clause cannot function as a sentence. It is a fragment.

Adverb Clause 1.Begins with a subordinate conjunction and contains a subject/verb 2.Comma rule-a sentence that begins with an adverb clause, put a comma after the pause. 3. When the bell rings, we will leave class.

Subordinate Conjunctions The words listed below begin adverb clauses: after, although, as if, because, before, if, since, though, unless, until, when, whenever, where, wherever

Adjective Clause 1.Begins with a relative pronoun 2.It will follow the noun that it describes. 3.The book which is torn up has been thrown into the trash.

Relative Pronouns Adjective and noun clauses begin with the following relative pronouns: who, that, whose, whom, which, what, why, when, where, whoever, and whomever
