Grade 8 Students will stay as a distinct cohort class Students will receive advanced instruction using an integrated pedagogy that respects IF principles

Grade 8 pedagogy Emphasis will continue to be on literacy cooperative and interactive learning project-based learning oral and written competence Content will reflect the regular grade 10 FSL themes and linguistic concepts

By the end of Grade 8, students should be ready for regular grade 11 FSL (as far as language competence is concerned)

Grade 9 possibilities Take another language (e.g., Spanish) Take another elective

Grade 10 continue with other language chosen in grade 9 take FSL 11

Grades 11 and 12 complete FSL 12 while in grade 11 continue with other language or elective chosen earlier (perhaps have 2 second languages)

How can students keep up their French after grade 8? form a French or Book club at the school go on a trip to Quebec as a cohort participate in an exchange have a French e-pal (from the class or a francophone country) continue to read, watch French TV, listen to French radio take part in local French-Canadian culture

Advantages for being in the program Students have more elective possibilities have the opportunity of staggering their grade 12 provincially examinable subjects more have an advantage in French oral skills (which will be tested by the time they get to grade 12 Provincial Exam) are able to converse with greater confidence and ease in a French environment have enhanced interpersonal and public speaking skills have strong literacy development
