4 IIT –NIT Council Meets on 28 May 2012 Federation representatives invited but asked to meet in the end Screening: 50% Board + 50% Main Exam. Main Exam + Advance on the same day All students (12 Lakh..) to take both exams CBSE or similar body to conduct both exam IITs to provide support/control for paper setting and evaluation etc

7 Why is IIT Faculty upset? Broader issue of IIT autonomy Sole authority lies with Senates: Changes should be bottom up rather than top down More or less came as ‘diktat’ from IIT council When pointed out, HRM says IIT Council..IIT Council…IIT Council ……………… ∞

8 Autonomy issue Majority Senate views disregarded by IIT Council IITs to follow NIT type of scheme after 2015; Gross violation of views of IITs Not allowed for matter to be referred back to Senates

9 Possible solutions Nothing less than IIT Delhi Senates Resolution which is also in toto acceptable to IIT K and IIT B. IITR and IIT Kgp to follow. Or IIT Delhi conducts its own JEE in coordination with like minded IITs

11 The IITs Senate views must form the basis for the final formulation of the admission processes. It is shocking to see that till today the Senates views have not even been invited in this regard.

14 IIT Delhi Senate Resolution (02 May 2012) “As such any changes in admission system to CFTIs including IITs should be implemented only from 2014 ”. “Class XII marks should be considered only as a qualifying criteria (in percentile form).” “…….the merit list of main examination will be eligible to appear in a subjective type (non MCQ type) advanced examination “The responsibility of conducting this examination will rest solely with IITs like the present IIT JEE.”
