9
Since the worldwide acceptance of VETTING as a way of life in tanker shipping, the quality of tanker tonnage has improved. FACT This caused us to ask…………………
10
IF THE VETTING PROCESS WORKS FOR SHIPS, WHY NOT TRY IT ON TERMINALS ??
11
HENCE, THE TERMINAL VETTING DATABASE WAS BORN
12
From a Small Start We have over 107 Companies Participating
13
Number of reports received for each country within Americas Americas No: of Reports ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA, ATL.ISLS. 2 ARGENTINA45 ARUBA21 BAHAMAS98 BRAZIL32 CANADA145 CANARY ISLANDS, ATLANTIC ISLS. 2 CAYMAN ISLANDS, CARIBEAN 1 CHILE17 COLOMBIA86 COSTA RICA 18 CUBA3 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC 35 ECUADOR42 EL SALVADOR 12 GUADELOUPE1Americas No: of Reports GUATEMALA73 GUYANA5 HONDURAS28 JAMAICA36 MARTINIQUE1 MEXICO262 NETHERLANDS ANTILLES 139 PANAMA63 PERU49 PUERTO RICO 92 ST. WE KEPT IT SIMPLE ONE PAGE USER-FRIENDLY
15
THE RATINGS 1. Poor: Worse than average in all areas. Needs lot of improvement. 2. Below Average: Worse than average in some areas. Could use some improvement. 3. Average: Fully adequate. 4. Above Average: Better than average in some regards. 5. Excellent: Of a very high quality in all regards.
16
The Questions Asked
18
We have learned …Only 22 percent of terminals accept slops!! …Only 29 percent of loadports issue MSDS’s
19
THIS IS INTERESTING TO US BECAUSE IT IDENTIFIES MORE WAYS FOR US TO IMPROVE OUR LOT AND IN SO DOING, VALIDATES THE TVD PROGRAM
20
3 LEVELS OF UTILITY Level 1: Vessel Manager can review terminals prior to vessel’s call Level 2: Owners can review and follow up on any problems individually with his terminal counterparts Level 3: The Intertanko Vetting Committee can be tasked to follow up with any “problem terminals” not responding to Owner’s observations
21
Level 2 IS WHERE WE SEE THE GREATEST UTILITY OF THE SYSTEM. Because it provides a direct avenue for Owner to work with terminal to fix problems without making a huge issue out of it.
22
But Level 3 Remains as a viable alternative if a resolution cannot be effected
23
BUT THERE ARE OTHER UNCHARTED SYNERGIES …ANALYSIS BY INTERTANKO …IDENTIFICATION OF PROBLEM TERMINALS …BUILDING OF ALLIANCES WITH LIKE-MINDED ORGANIZATIONS WHO KNOWS WHAT WE CAN ACCOMPLISH THROUGH MUTUAL COOPERATION ??
24
BUT THERE IS MUCH MORE TO DO!! TO DATE WE HAVE RECEIVED OVER 7000 REPORTS INDUCED AT LEAST THREE TERMINALS TO MAKE EXTENSIVE IMPROVEMENTS We also can report that BP recently agreed to participate, and has 40 staffers involved collecting and inputting reports!! And one other oil major has just expressed high interest in it.
25
So, please …T ake a blank form …Bring it to Your Office …Talk it Up With Your People …Get Involved With this Program AND HELP US KEEP OUR INDUSTRY CLEAN …Send us Your Comments Check out the program on www.Intertanko.com
