Reading Test on Thursday (for book stories) Bring library books to class each day When the reading book comes home send it back each day Reading Street series and other literature sources Accelerated Reader will begin in September-usually 2 point goal

Writing Grade Weekly dictation tests now cover our no excuse words, capitalization, and correct punctuation. Look for additional no excuse words and grammar skills to be added throughout the year.

Writer’s Workshop Children are writing everyday on self selected topics Writing stays in their writing folders so they can revisit a piece and revise and edit Writing will not be coming home regularly We are very excited about our new program-please be aware that we will be out of the building a day each month for training

Class DOJO Students can earn points for positive behaviors such as: being on task following directions helping others, etc. Students can also lose points for negative behaviors such as: being off task not following directions hitting/pushing *Points are reset each Friday *We do not check messages on Class DoJo

Barter Bucks For every five DoJo points that are earned, the student receives a barter buck to spend on Barter Day. Barter Bank- points not in multiples of five are not lost Barter Bank- points not in multiples of five are not lost Students are responsible for keeping up with their Barter Bucks –they are not replaced if lost. We are trying to teach responsibility.

Barter Day Once every nine weeks Students earn “Barter Bucks” for every five DoJo points Students bring in their “treasures” from home to sell Check newsletters and agendas for dates Food items should be individually wrapped

Homework Listed in agendas Reinforces skills that are being taught Promotes responsibility(must be turned in at check in time) Homework should take 15-20 minutes to complete. In addition, they should read 10 minutes a night on AR or other book Homework is on our webpages

Birthdays All birthday treats will be passed out in the cafeteria during lunch. Please send cupcakes or individual treats. Invitations can only be passed out in class if the whole class is invited. Please use your class and PTA directory to contact and invite children to keep from hurting children’s feelings.
