Benefits for users u This guide answers an expressed need from the statistics and data users u Citation is a common language between users and data producers u A citation guide is a training tool u Proper citations can support bibliographies compiled from data uses u Inclusion in the DDI-Nesstar tools used by the DLI community

Benefits for Data Producers and Distributors u Complete citation is component of the licensing process u Inclusion in the registration/production process (recommended citation for new products ) u Develop the citation once u Inclusion in search tools, catalogues, web sites, bibliographic databases etc. u Value added information to products u From a continuum of access to a continuum of citations

International Challenges u Among the data community there is a need for international guidelines for citing statistics and data u IASSIST has a role to play in the development and promotion of a culture of citation u Development of citation guidelines became an IASSIST action item u Data Citation Initiative (DCI) u The « How to cite STC products » as starting points u ISO standards 690 and 690-2 u Co-operation and standards are key to success
