Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 SLAT Ablenet Switch Latch and Timer Training Module

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Purpose A SLAT is used when teaching the concept of cause and effect. A battery operated device or toy is able to be activated for a specific amount of time via a switch.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Purpose After the pre-determined time has elapsed, the device will turn off until it is reactivated by the switch.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Models – Single Switch Latch and Timer

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Models – Dual Switch latch and Timer

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Switch Toy The Dual Switch Latch & Timer may be used to provide the student with a choice of which device he/she may want to activate. Switch Toy Switch

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Steps for Use 1. Place a 9 volt battery into the battery compartment

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Steps for Use 2. Plug the cord into the battery operated device

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Steps for Use 3. Plug a switch into this plug

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Steps for Use 4. Set the “mode” to Timed (seconds)

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Steps for Use 5. Set the “time” to approximately 15 seconds

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Additional Instructions The SLAT only controls the electrical flow to the device. Therefore, you must make sure the battery operated device is turned ON This may mean that you need to tape down the “ON” button on the device depending on how it functions

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Implementation The student activates the switch Staff members verbally reinforce the understanding that the device has been activated by the switch Staff members discourage additional switch activation prior to the device turning off

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Implementation If needed, staff members verbally inform the student that the device has turned off and needs to be reactivated The student turns the device back on by activating a switch

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Modes There are 4 different modes of control that may be used Direct, Timed Seconds, Timed Minutes, & Latch

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Modes Direct Mode Keeps appliances ON as long as the switch continues to be activated

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Modes Timed Seconds Mode Runs appliances from 1 to 60 seconds with each switch activation This mode is felt to be the best mode to use when teaching the concept of cause and effect

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Modes Timed Minutes Mode Runs appliances from 1 to 60 minutes with each switch activation

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Modes Latch Mode Press once to turn the appliance ON Press again to turn the appliance OFF
