2 Goals for Today Check Homework – Turn in Parent Contact Info with signatures – Show me your work for the Diagnostic Assessment and get a homework stamp – Go over questions Essential Questions – New material and review of properties Classwork for practice Homework Assignment—Handout

3 Warmup problem—just like yesterday’s Please work on this problem while I check homework. Recall from yesterday—find slope and find the y-intercept. Then write the final equation. Write the slope intercept form of the linear equation that passes through the two points (3, 1) and (-3, -3).

4 Essential Questions How do I use the sets of real numbers to describe numbers? How do I determine the accuracy of my answers?

5 Classwork On the handout— “Is it Rational?” – Work with a partner to fill in the blanks. Be sure you can explain why a number is rational or not. “Always, Sometimes, or Never True” – Evaluate each statement based on our discussion of the Closure Property.

6 Review of Properties Commutative Associative Distributive Identity Inverse

7 Properties of Equality Reflexive Symmetric Transitive Substitution

8 Accuracy of Answers Units of measurement – A geometric example Rounding off – A banking example Exact answers vs. approximations – Irrational or decimal approximations?

9 Summary Classify numbers according to their place in the Venn diagram. In particular recognize rational and irrational. Review and understand the Properties from earlier math classes. Learn to be aware of providing accurate and complete answers to problems.

10 Homework On the handout: – Algebra 2 CCSS Unit 1 Lesson 1 (8 problems) Remember order of operations for 1 and 2. “Explain the steps” means to write out in words the procedures you took to solve. Plug in values and evaluate for #3. Problems 4-6 relate to the Venn diagram we covered today. Problems 7 and 8 require you to apply the properties correctly.
