3  This is the oldest group of early humans (walked upright)  Similar to chimpanzees (both ape and human characteristics)  Had a brain about a third the size of a human brain  Long curved fingers, small canine teeth- lived in both in trees and on the ground

5  Made crude, simple tools  Humanlike teeth, jaw, larger brain than Australopithecus, but has longer arms like an ape  No proof of art, fire building, or burial rituals

7  Made complex tools and one tool had many uses (hand axes)  Built fires and were hunter and gatherers, cared for the old and weak  Modern humanlike body proportions-longer legs and shorter arms  Longest lived human species  Skeletons found in Africa and Asia
