3  The Philippines is the first nation in the tropics to ever participate in the Winter Olympics Games.  The Philippines first athletes to compete at the Olympics Games were in 1924, making it the first Country to compete and win a medal in Southern Asia.  Filipino athletes have also competed at Winter Olympics Games on three different occasions since 1972, but not since 1994.  The National Olympics Committee of Philippines is the Philippines Olympics Committee, founded in 1911 and recognized by the International Olympics Committee in 1929.  Filipino athletes have won a total of nine Olympic medals, with boxing as the top medal-producing sport.  Philippines now holds the record for the most medals without gold because of Mongolia winning its first gold medal at 2008 Summer Olympics.
