7 Election of 1860  Two races:  Lincoln and Douglas in North  Breckinridge and Bell in the South  Lincoln and Breckinridge had most extreme positions on slavery  Douglas and Bell were moderates  Lincoln won the North, Breckinridge the South, North had more people  South thought Lincoln’s election threat to their way of life
