Source of Images A compound light microscope contains a light bulb or another source of light that illuminates a specimen and uses a series of glass lenses to refract the light and magnify the specimen

Type of Image Because a compound light microscope uses white light, a full color image can be observed

Magnification On its highest settings a compound light microscope can magnify a specimen up to 1000x. On its lowest settings it will magnify to 40x

Preparation of a Specimen Live specimens can be viewed in a compound light microscope. There is no complex preparation required; specimens are placed on a glass slide
