3 L. 1 Vocab Cells – The basic unit of life Microscope – An instrument used to magnify things. Electron microscope – An instrument that uses a beam of tiny particles called electrons

4 L. 1 Vocab Cont Organelle – A tiny structure inside a cell. Tissue – A group of cells that are similar and work together Organ – A group of different tissues that work together

5 Cells All living things are made of cells. A cell is the basic unit of life. Cells carry out many functions, or jobs. Some cells specialized to do specific functions.

6 Different cells Skin cells: Muscle cells: Bone cells: Nerve cells: Blood cells:

7 Observing Cells Cells come in different sizes Most cells are invisible to the naked eye. Those cells can only be seen with a microscope

8 Microscope Microscopes are like magnifying glasses that we use to look at ants that may look like a black dot.
