2 About Mrs. English Married with 3 Children My husband’s name is Kyle –Andrew -15 years-old/Sophomore @ Klein Collins –Greyson -3 years-old –Olivia – Will be 3 September 18 th This my tenth year teaching Graduate of the University Texas Pan American Prior to teaching I worked at a television station for 6 years Certification-Interdisciplinary Studies EC-4th Grade English as a Second Language (ESL) Gifted & Talented (GT)

4 About Mrs. Dombrowski Married with 2 Children My husband’s name is Rob (works at KCHS) Caroline -7 years-old Bryan -4 years-old This my 5th year teaching 2 nd Grade Graduate of the University of North Carolina in Charlotte Prior to teaching I worked at M. D. Anderson for the Department of Anesthesiology Certification- EC-4th Grade English as a Second Language (ESL) Gifted & Talented (GT) Art (EC-12)

6 About Ms. Harper Graduated Cum Laude from The University of Texas at Austin This is my 2nd year teaching Originally from Kingwood, Texas Moved to Texas from Denver, CO in 2 nd grade Certification EC- 6 th Grade English as a Second Language (ESL) Lover of: Cats, coffee, and Texas Longhorn Football!!

8 Lemm Procedures Turn off cell phones once you enter Lemm Driver’s License will be scanned every time you are on campus. Remove hats Practice opening ziplock bags, milk, granola packages at home. (This helps them at lunch) Know how to use seat belt. (This expedites car rider lines) Know name, address, parent’s names, birthday, phone number.

10 From the Nurse 1.Must be fever free for 24 hours to be able to return to school. 2.All medication forms need to be filled out in the clinic Expect Success!

11 Address and Phone Numbers Students need to know their first and last name and how to spell them. Please go over this at home. Students need to know their address and phone number.

12 Lunch Information = Accounts are accessible online at www. paypams.com When lunch envelopes come home please send money with your child to replenish their account. Parents can eat at table by the stage with your child. Please sign in at the front office.

13 Attendance/Tardies Attendance is very important! –Learning is hands on For every 4 th tardy conduct grade will be reduced. Class begins at 8:00. Tardy bell rings at 8:20

14 Daily Schedule Specials/Conference Period Monday, Thursday, Friday 8:30 – 9:15 Wednesday 9:30-10:15 *Tuesday - no conference period due to PLC Please check our websites for entire schedule

15 GRADING GUIDELINES Major grades-60% Minor grades-40% Reading-3 major/8 minor Language-3 major/5 minor Math-3 major/8 minor Science -3 major/6 minor Social Studies -3 major/6 minor

16 Parent Connection Your child’s grades will be available to you online so you can monitor their progress weekly. Parents can set up grade triggers to notify them if grade drops below parent set expectations. Grades will be updated weekly. www.kleinisd.net

17 Homework Lemm has moved away from traditional homework. Homework will no longer be counted as 10% of your child’s grade. Homework is optional. “Completes Homework” is no longer on the weekly conduct sheet

18 Homework Also being assigned weekly Read for 20 minutes a day Practice addition and subtraction math facts up to 20 Reflex math (way to practice math facts) Although homework is optional, we strongly encourage that you review these skills with your child/children.

19 Math There will not be a math study guide Go over homework and assignments that go home weekly. Most times our website will have example type problems on the testing information breakdown.

20 Science Study Guides Science Study Guides will be glued in the science journal 1 week prior to the test. Study Guide is also available online - students need to do the work on the study guide that is glued in their journal. Students need to fill in any vocabulary or questions Work on the study guide throughout the week so that it is not overwhelming to your child. Students need to start working on good study habits with you. Parents sign the study guide the night BEFORE the test.

21 E-Instruction Some assignments/assessments will be administered using e-instruction. Grades are not recorded on paper. Please check Gradespeed regularly to see student grades. Math e-instruction grades will be recorded on paper only when computations are required.

22 What Does an End of the Year Second Grader Look Like? Math (these are some NOT ALL) Place Value to thousands Recalling Basic Facts to add/subtract with automaticity Multiple Step Word Problems Adding/Subtracting to the thousands with regrouping Multiplication Meaning Telling Time to the minute Counting a collection of coins Shapes and their attributes Graphing

23 What Does an End of the Year Second Grader Look Like? READING Reads on a level M book with a fluency rate of 90 wpm with comprehension Writes complete sentences using correct punctuation. Can write a meaningful story that has details and correct grammar.

24 What can you do to help? Check homework (optional) Help with corrections on their daily work and assessments for all subjects. Practice math facts nightly. Create new problems from these and work on them together. Read with your child daily and/or have them read to you. Go over sight words. Practice writing sentences and creating stories together.

25 Behavior Plan Discipline Chart with recorded behaviors for the day Money – Positive behavior earns your child money that they can use to buy items from the classroom store. Students are responsible for their money. They need to keep it in their plastic bag or pencil bag. Not following classroom/school procedures and homework requirements will result in their work habit grade being adjusted accordingly. *Wednesday folders will document behavior infractions. Please discuss these infractions with your child so that they can work on correcting their behavior.

27 Book Orders Scholastic books is the cheapest way to order books. Please send a CHECK ONLY with your child made out to Scholastic with school orders. You can now order online!

28 Family Participation Please plan to get involved in our classroom this year! Studies show that students are much more successful when their families are involved with their teacher to create a team atmosphere! Volunteers must complete a background check!
