18 18 Observations and Recommendations Observations – Across all landing pages, fewer than 50% of clicks were on links to content – Intro text areas where there are no links get the most amount of clicks – Navigational areas (top nav, left nav, etc.) got about 23% of clicks – On most pages, links on lower right received significantly fewer clicks than those on upper right – News and blog received few clicks from these pages Recommendations – Explore layout options that better emphasize the links to content and reduce and/or eliminate tailing content on the right – Reduce intro text; remove lower center photos; explore options for placing most important/popular links in prime center real estate – Do further testing with users to understand why they are using navigation from these pages. Consider removing left nav if they are confused by it. – Consider moving news and blog further down the page, or removing altogether, to better emphasize content links

19 19 Additional Suggestions? Future Planning – Update landing pages as migrated sites go live – Reconcile landing page content with office sites following other topic- based redesigns – Consider role of topic landing pages if office sites complete topic-based redesigns (site-wide navigational question) Share your suggestions/changes for improving the topic landing pages: allison.casey@nrel.govallison.casey@nrel.gov
