What is textiles Textiles is a type of cloth or woven fabric. It ranges from a piece of clothing to pottery, or jewellery. It is also a flexible woven material consisting of a network of natural or artificial fibres often referred to as thread or yarn. Yarn is produced by spinning raw fibres of wool, flax, cotton, or other material to produce long strands.Textiles are formed by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting, or pressing fibres together to make felt. Who was the first fashion designer
Charles Fredrick worth Charles Frederick Worth was an English fashion designer, whose works were produced in Paris and who is widely considered the Father of Haute couture. He was the first designer to have his label sewn into the garments that he created. He worked at several prosperous London drapery shops before moving to Paris . He was hired by Gagelin and Opigez, well-known Parisian drapers. HOME

Inspiration Inspiration comes from everywhere whether it’s a crack in the side walk, a place or person. It’s all about what you like and what looks good to you. All you need is a pair of eyes and the imagination to create something wonderful that everybody wants. Your inspiration doesn't even have to be what everybody knows. As long as you can make something of it your inspiration is great. HOME

HOME Fibres A fibre is a thin like structure that can be either long or short. Short fibres are called staples fibres. Long fibres are called filament fibres. Staple fibres need to be spun into and tend to be slightly hairy in appearance. Filament fibres are long and give a smooth shiny finish to fabrics. All fabrics come from fibres. The job of a fashion designer
Fashion designers work on the design of items and clothing with a wide fashion ranges. Some focus completely on one specialist area such as, sportswear, and children wear footwear or accessories. As a fashion designer, you could work in high fashion or designer ready to wear fashion. You could also work in high street fashion. To be a fashion designer, you will need to have a good eye for colour and shape. You’ll need skills like pattern cutting and sewing. You’ll also need to able to spot trends. You will usually need a relevant degree to do this job. A course that teaches both design and technical skills w ill give you the knowledge you need to work in the industry. Opportunities You will usually work for high street retailers or independent fashion houses. Once you have developed the skills you need to be a successful fashion designer, you can progress to positions such as senior designer, head of a department for example head of women's wear design or design director.
