What is Project Tango? This is a prototype smartphone technology by Google that can create a 3D map of a room with “a quarter million 3D measurements every second.” It updates its position and orientation in real time. Project Tango

What can I do with it? Shopping : Having an indoor map of the store in your hand could make shopping trips more efficient by leading you directly to the shelf you want. You could also use your phone to map rooms in your house or classrooms to help buy furniture or other items.

What can I do with it? Directions: could help you find your way inside large buildings. Visually-impaired : could use the phone to map a room and then use software to get alerts for obstacles Emergency Response : can provide useful information in situations where knowing the exact layout of a room can be a matter of life or death

How do you get one? Google is making the prototype phone available to developers, with interested parties invited to apply for one of the devices from the project's website. However, Google is making only 200 of the smartphones available in the first instance. Google expects to distribute all of the units by March 14.

What’s next? Project Tango is in the experimental stages as the team and developers try to expand the possibilities of mobile platforms. However, Google plans eventually to bring this technology to millions of consumers.
