Deltas and beaches are formed when sediments are dropped. Sediments form sand dunes when wind slows down and drops its load. Glaciers stop moving, melt and form ridges of rock called morraines. Rain, streams and rivers carry away soil, sand and small rocks. Particles of rock, soil and sand are blown away. Glaciers pick up pebbles, rocks and huge boulders, carrying them along and carving out the land. Moving water in streams carry rough pieces of rock and sand and chip away at other rocks. Sand is blown into rocks, wearing it away like sandpaper on wood. Water collects in rocks, freezes, expands and breaks the rock apart. Roots spread inside cracks in rocks, breaking the rock apart as the plant grows.
