Post Production Film Editing Editing is the work of selecting two or more shots to create a finished film. Post production film editing is the editing done after all of the filming has taken place by the editor or director.

Film Editing Techniques Cutaway- An interruption of a continuously filmed action and inserting a new Continuity Editing- Smooth flowing shots Cross-Cutting- alternating between 2 or more shots Fade- Transition between shots that dissolve into a single color Key, Keying- Compositing two or more full frame images together 180 Degree Rule- Rule stating that two characters in the same scene should always have left/right relations to each other.

Walter Murch's six main film editing criteria 1. Emotion- Does the cut reflect the reaction? 2. Story- Does the cut advance the story? 3. Rhythm- Does the cut occur rhythmically sound? 4. Eye-Trace- Does the cut follow the audiences eye focus? 5. 2-Dimensional Place on Screen- Does the cut follow the 180 degree rule? 6. 3-Dimensional Space of Action- Is the cut true to the action?
